This winter is marked in our memories by the incredible amount of snowfall, usually no more than two feet on the ground at any time in the winter. We had nearly six feet in some areas, a rare event. It was a winter of relaxation and recreation as work was a bit tough to manage. We snowmobiled, snowshoed and generally enjoyed the outdoors. We found two sets of moose shed horns that year, one in the winter and one in the spring. The winter set was up Whitepine Creek, with one antler being right in the middle of the road and freshly shed. The other was quickly found after a thorough survey of the immediate area. What an amazing treasure to find in the wild!
Montana is dubbed the Big Sky Country due to the vast horizons, sensational sunsets and seemingly endless skyline. From thunder and lightening, to pink cotton-candy clouds, the skies in Montana are ever changing scenes that never fail to hold your attention.
The Bitterroot Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountain chain create the southwestern sentinal of the valley, while the Cabinets guard northeastern entry into the valley. The Clark Fork River bisects the two. The weather patterns created by this alliance, are quite mild with very little wind, moderate temperatures and a perfect amount of snow. This stretch of Montana is sometimes called the banana belt of Montana for it's temperate climate.
In the spring, we have spring run-off, which swells the streams, waters the greenery and brings beautiful Montana wildflowers, as well as Tamarack needles, deciduous foliage and makes the way for summer sun.
Northwest Montana may be the most scenic, laid back and peaceful environment you can choose for your home or getaway. If you enjoy the outdoors, Montana is for you.
The fall foliage is simply stunning in Northwest Montana with gorgeous golds and rust reds. The foliage slowly evacuates, readying the deciduous landscaping for winter dormancy.
Northwest Montana has hayfields used both for livestock and wildlife including deer, elk and moose. These hayfields are rimmed by Whitepine Creek with the mountains towering in the background.
Here in Northwest Montana, we help our neighbors, wave to one another even if we don't know our fellow waver, wait for crossers-by on Main Street, have no stop lights in the county, have more cows per square mile than people and have an insatiable appreciation of nature.
